When i was in my early twenties
I had trouble sleeping
I tried everything
Nasal surgeries
Sprays
Breathe right strips
Everything
Better pillow. I even spent 100$ on a pillow once. My friends came over and begged me to try it. Nobody had ever heard of someone spending 100$ on a pillow before.
Better mattress 5000$.
Drugs
Cbd
Really anything
Then one day i kinda just slept
Like really slept without any issue
I threw the drugs away
And the slumber continued
Then i got into napping
And pretty soon i was sleeping even in the afternoons
Then i got into dreaming
And i would interpret my dreams
One time i dreamt i was holding all the right cards
I interpreted this as That everything was coming together
Another week i was dreaming constantly of being surrounded by famous people
And i realized that fame would soon come to me
My dreams became more real
My afternoon sleeps became deeper
And i would have visions
Deep understanding of my life
My soul came to the forefront
How could there not be a soul? Id wake up wondering in a daze
And what if God is real? Id tremble in fear, knowing i had to live the Good life
What started out as a problem
Soon became a blessing
Id sleep once and work
Then id sleep again in the afternoon wake up and finish off what i started in the morning
Coding became easier
Any problems i encountered id soon sleep and they’d be solved
I discovered you can nap together with people
So id go back to iran and in the afternoon after our lunches my cousins and i would take a quick 2 hour nap on the floor
I began to love sleep
Flying around the world id plan around my sleep schedule
A late night flight was usually cheaper. Id get a free hotel as well since i could sleep anywhere.
Bus rides? Time for a quick recharge.
At this point id mastered sleep.
I had this special sleep playlist on both spotify and apple music downloaded.
Id play it and i knew it was time.
Sleep would overwhelm my eyes.
My body would slow down, get heavy, and boom.
(Funny in many cultures we say he’s a Heavy sleeper, as I’ve discovered language holds the key to understanding)
Gone.
Sleep became so automatic. So full. It was as if id pressed the fast forward button.
Unawares id wake up with two hours or an hour gone.
I almost missed the days of restless sleep.
This was getting scary.
How could time go by so fast?
I became so unaware of my sleep, so deep and restful, i began to question my waking hours.
Are they passing by just the same? I wondered.
I get on a train, and the destination arrives.
May it never come!
May we stay asleep forever.
