Why is it that when someone does well, we instantly look to see the route they took.
Well if they didn’t actually do it, then it shows that we’re not lazy, or dumb, because nobody can achieve true honest success.
Thereby lowering the success of others, we diminish their efforts, and increase our own view of ourselves.
Furthermore, we aim to devalue the ownership of the value they gained. If they didn’t gain it, is it really theirs?
And if that person wishes to teach us how they got where they are, if they actually did not do anything, and it was done for them or by dishonest means, then their methods are also devalued.
This thereby reduces the need to listen to them, making sure that their advice is fully devalued. Meaning we do not have to learn anything, because what they did only works for ‘them’ and not ‘us’.
Ultimately all of this has an effect on our own
1) status and view of ourselves (remaining the same since that person is a fraud)
2) the ultimate need to get up, change something, and do perhaps what that person is saying we should do. if they didn’t actually do it even themselves, why would I?
