As a reader of my blog; we’re practically friends; and as my friend; I have only one thing to ask you.
Don’t deceive yourself.
You can deceive others. Lie all you want.
I ask that you at least, do not lie to yourself.
Have you ever found yourself on a Hawaiian island, and you take a break after a long breath… why the hell am I here?
Perhaps you’re better at planning than me! Maybe you are a wise man already, and you had good intentions. You see my friend, if you have bad intentions, or are ashamed of your own intentions, you will lie.
The habitual patterns that you are either not aware of, or hide from, might have been the real reason you are on some random Hawaiian island with a new friend. Maybe you don’t know why you are on that island, but let me tell you something. There is a reason. It was not an accident, a random occurrence. You chose it, with your knowledge, or some hidden schema in your subconscious.
So to ‘lie’ to yourself, is a very quick way of lying to others. And the sooner we stop ‘lying’, the better. But what does it mean to lie? And how is it possible to lie to ourselves?
You can lie through your being, in your core. By carrying an identity that is not your own.
You can lie in your speech, saying something that you know isn’t true.
And you can lie to yourself, through your train of thought ‘I am in Hawaii because of the nature, not because of the incredible Envy this will produce in my friends’. This duplicoutness is so innately human, we are so good at it, that it has become habitual to lie.
What do all 3 of these lies have in common? intention
«funny side note about lying. the reason some thieves actually get caught is because they are caught lying. watch someone walking around lying, and pretending to be something they are not. it is very difficult to act in a duplicitous manner. To be one thing, and act as another, is hard, very hard. I bet to be a good thief, a really good thief, we must know ourselves fully, and be honest with what we are doing. “I’ve been tasked with sneaking into this building, and stealing that piece of art, I am doing it despite the fact that it is wrong, but because I simply want to.” Now the 3 dimensional lie, is taken away. I am not lying to myself at the very least. I know my mission. The only thing then is to evade detection. Pretending to be something different at the same time as accomplishing such a task, is probably too many things to juggle in the mind.»
You see, if you knew yourself, you would at least know when you are lying. You might say: ‘I know why I’m going to Hawaii, to show everybody how awesome my life is. To get a status above the rest, to gain localized status, and to feel better about my childhood, and the way others treated me’
If you lie in this way to me, then is it really a lie? You know yourself, and by that logic, you can ‘predict’ your next movement, and understand your current moment.
Without self knowledge, we don’t even fully know what led us here…
Does that give you the shivers my dear reader? Because it should. What I’ve just described is the Mechanics theory of humanity. Without full knowledge of themselves, they can’t answer why they are where they are. So they lie, to make up for the lack of knowledge.
Newton had knowledge of the way the planets operated. And therefore could predict more accurately where they would be in the next hour.
Can you do this with yourself?
Know yourself my friend, so we can be more honest with ourselves, and others.
